My First Messenger Bag

My 9 year old has been asking for me to make him a bag .  I can't find any tutorials/patterns for boy bags.  Luckily a facebook friend shared a link for a kid-sized messenger bag.  Thank you "J" for the link.  It gave me the idea to look for more youtube tutorials for a messenger bag.  Although I can follow directions,  I think I have ADD when it comes to sewing/quilting and just have to  add my own twist to the projects.

The fabrics were  bought a few weeks ago at our Meijer store and they were chosen by Vyn.   We got 3 fat quarters, 2 with puppies and 1 with dog bones print.

The whole bag measure approximately 10X13 inches.  I used all three fabrics for the lining and the strap.

For my first messenger bag, I am quiet satisfied that it turned out.  The interfacing would surely have helped with the form and make it more rigid.  There are a lot to choose from and I still need to learn which to use for bags or clothing and others.  Maybe I could try the use of interfacings for my next bag, if I get inspired to make more bags and to learn about them.

Thank you for dropping by.

My Very First Dress

Lyn was having fever last night, so today is a stay at home with mom day.   We decided to finally make the dress that a friend lend me her simplicity pattern for.  It is for making a pillowcase dress for kids.  Since I have a lot of  leftover fabric from the apron I made for Lyn, we used that and some of the pink quilting fabric leftovers.    As I was cutting the fabric and reading the pattern, I was reminded by another friend who mentioned that the tutorials are better for her.  Now I understand why she prefers the tutorials.  I can't imagine some of the directions and terminology used and so I went online and watched a few how to sew a dress for beginner's youtube tutorials.  Here is a tutorial that is for the same dress with ruffles.

Lyn was happy with the fabric she also chose the pink fabric from my increasing stash for the trim and ribbon.  She said "I like my dress" after putting it on and even when we are having a cold April weather, she is wearing it now and enjoying it.

I am just glad to be able to make something wearable.  It took me more than a week, to finally get the courage to just do it.

Thank you "C" for lending me your pattern.  I would not have bothered to try making a dress without it.  I might end up trying more designs and maybe make something for myself.  We shall see...

Kids Apron

A few days ago, I went back to the local store where we bought the sewing machine and asked them to show me the basics and what my machine has to offer.  I was told not to get intimidated with sewing.  That all I need is just to keep on practicing and everything will just get better.  So when the kids decided to have their own aprons too, Lyn and I went fabric shopping.   She decided on a princess fabric and we decided on a sports themed fabric for Vyn.  We bought the pattern from our local JoAnn's Store.    I modified the neck part of their apron into a slip on instead of  tying it around the neck.  It resulted into a more kid friendly apron and they are both very excited.  As you can see the stitches are now better but still very amateurish.   The daddy also want to have one.  So elated I am with this learning how to sew process that I bought a few kits online.  I will surely post my  next projects.

My First Ever Apron

This is the first ever apron that I sew by myself.  So lame.  But I am sooo proud of myself, hehehe.  The hubby bought me a sewing machine years ago.   I never got inspired to learn how to really use it.  Fortunately,  I ran into some handmade art that I would like to do.  So,  I decided to start to learn and create or maybe design something myself for 2013.  Of course, I have to start learning from the very basics and go from there.  I bought the kit which includes the fabric and instructions from Walmart.  Spend hours watching "how to sew" in youtube.  So glad I can still  follow instructions.  It took me a good 2 1/2 hours to finished this apron.  I obviously need to learn more "sew" language.  Try not to look at all the stitching details, it got a lot of flaws.  But I think it is a good first sewing project for me.
