The Pawn by Steven James, is the first book in the Patrick Bower's Files series. This writer will keep you guessing. Just when I thought I knew who the killer is, Mr. James proved me wrong a couple of times. Dr. Patrick Bower just lost his wife to cancer after a few months of marriage and he is doubting his faith in God. This book talks about Christian faith in a subtle way. Dr. Bower is an FBI agent whose specialty is in finding/tracking criminals through environmental criminology. He studies the time and place where the crime took place and tries to locate where the culprits will be. He also have a teenage stepdaughter with whom he can't relate and is confuse on how to parent her.
A good thriller which includes a few very detailed and sometimes gory description of murders. It gives a hint of how God is involve in our lives. A dose of parenting teenager dilemna and I see a beginning of new love. We will see if it goes on to the next book The Rook.
